Australia Day

Portland RSL Sub Branch will mark Australia Day on Friday, January 26th, with a barbecue lunch from 12 midday in the rooms on the corner of Percy and Gawler streets.

There will be free food, hot drinks and soft drinks, and the entire Portland district community is invited.

After lunch there will also be a movie to watch: The Odd Angry Shot (rated M) was released in 1979. It focuses on a group of Australian SAS regiment soldiers deployed to Vietnam around 1967/8. They encounter the realities of war, from the numbing boredom of camp life and long range patrols, raids and ambushes where nothing happens, to the terror of enduring mortar barrages from an unseen enemy. And it is not without it’s lighter moments, with some typical Aussie humour. Stars include Graham Kennedy, Bryan Brown, John Hargreaves and John Jarratt.
